Melo Trimble Leaves Lasting Legacy In College Park

The news that University of Maryland star junior guard Melo Trimble will enter the 2017 NBA Draft and hire an agent -- eliminating the possibility of withdrawing for the draft and returning to school -- has major implications for Trimble and head coach Mark Turgeon's Terps program.

For Trimble, he leaves behind a legacy as Turgeon's most important player to date and almost certainly will have a banner in his honor added to the collection among the Xfinity Center rafters. Maryland went 59-43 during Turgeon's first three seasons without Trimble, and a 17-15 season during the 2013-14 season led to a well-documented exodus of players, including Seth Allen, Nick Faust, Roddy Peters, Charles Mitchell and Shaquille Cleare.

A squad led by Trimble, Dez Wells and Jake Layman went 28-7 the following season -- Maryland's first in the Big Ten -- and the program earned an NCAA Tournament berth for the first time since 2010.
