One of the few bright spots during Maryland's anticlimactic 72-64 loss to Northwestern in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals was the performance of freshman guard Kevin Huerter, who scored 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting and 3-of-7 shooting from 3-point range. He also pulled down four rebounds, dished out four assists, had three steals and a block; he was the best player on the floor for the Terps.

In his first season in College Park, Md., Huerter has averaged nine points, five boards and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 37.1 percent from 3-point land. He's also one of four players -- three of whom are freshmen -- tasked with big minutes every night. A terrific shooter from deep range, a deft passer and a capable defender against opponents' top offensive threats, Huerter hasn't missed a start.

Now, Huerter will get a chance at his first NCAA Tournament when the Terps face Xavier in Orlando, Fla., at 6:50 p.m. March 16. Huerter explained the excitement he felt after watching CBS' selection show in Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon's basement with the rest of the team March 12.
