The Virginia State Bar’s Family Law Section has named Joseph A. Condo the 2017 recipient of the Betty A. Thompson Lifetime Achievement Award. According to the State Bar, “the award recognizes and honors an individual who has made a substantial contribution to the practice and administration of family law in Virginia.”

Mr. Condo, a principal attorney with Offit Kurman, has practiced family law in Virginia for over 40 years, and has resolved the vast majority of the cases he has handled without going to trial. He has formerly served as president of the Virginia State Bar and the Fairfax Bar Association, and is fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the American College of Trial Lawyers, the Virginia Law Foundation, and the American Bar Foundation.

He was nominated for the award by Supreme Court of Virginia Senior Justice Lawrence L. Koontz Jr., who highlighted Mr. Condo’s frequent appearances as a lecturer throughout the Virginia law circuit. In recognition of his award, Mr. Condo’s peers praised the “uniquely talented” attorney for his “professionalism, integrity, and devotion to both the law and his clients” as well as “his command of the law, his rapport with our colleagues, [and] his ability to teach by example.”

“This award is among the highest professional honors I’ve ever received, and has special meaning for me due to its namesake, the legendary Betty Thompson, who was a very dear friend,” said Mr. Condo. “It is also especially gratifying and humbling because it represents recognition by my fellow family law practitioners."
