Back On Top, Maryland Women's Lacrosse Faces Challenging March

The Maryland women's lacrosse team's 13-10 victory against defending NCAA champion North Carolina Feb. 25 vaulted the Terps into the top spot in the IWLCA national rankings. But a young Maryland squad will face plenty of challenges during a March schedule that includes five of the nation's top 20 teams.

Maryland never trailed during its triumph against the Tar Heels, who held the top ranking through the first two weeks of the season. The win was Maryland's fourth in its last five meetings with the Tar Heels and ended North Carolina's 20-game winning streak. The Tar Heels lost for the first time since falling to visiting Maryland, 8-7, Feb. 27, 2016.

"We know what Carolina is capable of, and we played consistently all the way through," said Maryland head coach Cathy Reese, whose Terps lost to the Tar Heels, 13-7, in the 2016 NCAA championship game. "We went out strong from the start."
