Melissa Gierach Joins DLA Piper in Washington, DC

2/13/17

DLA Piper announced today that Melissa Gierach has joined the firm’s Government Affairs practice and Federal Law and Policy group as a policy advisor in Washington, DC.

Gierach has advised members of Congress on tax and health policy for more than seven years. Most recently, she served as senior advisor to Rep. Charles W. Boustany, Jr., (R-Louisiana), who chaired the Subcommittee on Tax Policy for the House Ways and Means Committee.

Gierach developed and executed Boustany’s legislative agenda for healthcare, tax, and economic policy with a focus on comprehensive tax reform during the 114th Congress. She also developed, drafted and introduced more than a dozen pieces of standalone legislation regarding taxes and healthcare.

Prior to Capitol Hill, Gierach worked for the American Health Education Consortium and at an orthopedic clinic, where she gained hands-on experience in healthcare delivery and patient-outcome assessment.

“Given the changes in healthcare and taxes that could come out of Congress in 2017 and beyond, Melissa’s understanding of the inner workings of Capitol Hill will be extremely valuable for our clients,” said Steven Phillips, co-chair of DLA Piper’s Federal Law and Policy group. “Her extensive legislative and policy experience related to healthcare and tax issues will be a tremendous asset to our public policy group. We are thrilled to welcome her to our team.”

Gierach received her M.P.H., Health Policy, Economics, from George Washington University, and her B.S. from Florida State University.
