John Seng Names Jonathan Wilson CEO of Spectrum Science Communications

Jonathan Wilson

John Seng, founder of Spectrum Science Communications, announced today that Jonathan Wilson will succeed him as Chief Executive Officer following two consecutive years of high double digit growth in fee revenues.

Wilson joined Spectrum as president in 2014 and assumed management of the firm that Seng founded in 1996. Earlier in 2016, Spectrum received public relations industry recognition as Healthcare Agency of the Year and was selected among the Best Places to Work.

Through Wilson's vision and action to build on the solid scientific foundation of Spectrum, the firm has earned major wins with new and diverse accounts, attracted hand-selected talent, opened three new offices and established specialty practice units to operate and function with sole focus on client demand.

"Spectrum was established as a pure play health and science agency with a client-first philosophy," said Seng, who continues to chair Spectrum. "Working as partners instead of vendors, we established enduring relationships with clients. We see our success through their success. Seeking a like-minded successor who would anticipate client needs and ensure that Spectrum is equipped to surpass their expectations made Jonathan a natural choice."

Earlier this year, Seng appointed Wilson as president of GLOBALHealthPR, the largest independent public relations network dedicated exclusively to health and medical communications worldwide. Spectrum is the U.S. agency partner and owner of the GLOBALHealthPR brand. Prior to joining Spectrum, Wilson succeeded Richard Chamberlain as president of Chamberlain Healthcare PR.

In the past year, Spectrum has been named The Holmes Report "Healthcare Agency of the Year," a PRWeek "Best Places to Work" winner, and a PR News "Top Places to Work" honoree. Headquartered in Washington, DC, Spectrum launched offices in Chicago, New York and Atlanta over the past two years.

"With PhD scientists sitting side-by-side with policy experts, community managers and creatives, Spectrum has expanded our capabilities to bring science and storytelling together, generating game-changing conversations for clients," said Wilson. "Technology is constantly changing communications, as much as it is driving science and healthcare. A true multi-dimensional approach necessitates the ability to be nimble with access to true subject matter experts in various areas. Our client-first philosophy allows full engagement with experts who are passionate about the work and are driven by the opportunity to turn challenges into successes."

Wilson plans to lead Spectrum through what he envisions as a massive evolution of the healthcare landscape. He expects that the enhancement of health IT and predictive analytics, and anticipation of policy shifts will increasingly call for agencies to deliver infrastructure and teams built to meet evolving client needs. Having the right talent in place is vital for Spectrum to meet these needs – and is a key component of Wilson's approach. Spectrum aims to provide progressive support for its employees to keep them feeling valued and motivated, including career mapping and flexible work arrangements. This approach aligns with Wilson's and Seng's philosophy about why people come to work at Spectrum each day – to enhance lives by communicating innovation.
