7/12/16

Today, participants from the AT&T-Girls Who Code DC Summer Immersion program – a 7-week computer science course that embeds female high school students in summer classrooms in technology companies and universities – headed to 1776 to meet and listen to a panel of tech industry leaders.

The girls received a tour of the 1776 Crystal City location and then listened to an incredible group of speakers discuss how technology intersects with their daily lives.

Panelists included:

  • Allison McMillian – Software Enginner, General Assembly
  • Donna Harris – Cofounder, 1776
  • Paola Buitron-Bouw – Intellectual Property Manager, UMBC
  • Susan Tyler, Girls Who Code – Moderator

This is one of three field trips the students will take this summer in order to gain exposure mentors in the technology industry.

This event is part of the inaugural AT&T-GWC program in DC. AT&T is currently hosting 20 girls in the District in order to help the students learn the fundamentals of computer science and experience mentorship from women working in technology.
