Wednesday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.2%, the NASDAQ closed up 0.5%, and the S&P 500 closed up 0.3%. Prominent Washington DC stocks dropped 0.3% in spite of a good day on the market.

Biggest Gainer

In Washington DC, Rosetta Stone Inc. (NYSE:RST) was Wednesday's biggest gainer, closing up 5.8% to finish at $9.05. The stock changed hands at 0.8 times its current three-month average volume, with 103,300 shares traded. Another big gainer was Gannett Co. Inc. (NYSE:GCI), rising 2.9% to close at $15.14 on volume of 4.8 million.

Biggest Loser

The biggest loser on Wednesday was Opnet Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:OPNT), dropping 15.4% to close at $32.13. The stock changed hands at 11.2 times its current three-month average volume, with 2.2 million shares traded. Coventry Health Care Inc. (NYSE:CVH) fell 1.6% to close at $30.49 on volume of 3.8 million, making it another big loser for the day.
