At close of market on Tuesday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.3%, the NASDAQ up 0.2%, and the S&P 500 up 0.3%. Washington DC's more noticeable stocks took a tumble despite a good day on the market, closing down 0.3%.

Biggest Gainer
In Washington DC, Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) closed at $86.63 (+1.6%), making it Tuesday's biggest gainer. Trading at 1.2 times their average volume over the past three months, 2.9 million shares of the stock changed hands. Also finishing strong was Capitalsource, Inc. (NYSE:CSE), closing at $7.04 (+1%) on volume of 3.3 million.

Biggest Loser
Gannett Co. Inc. (NYSE:GCI) was Tuesday's biggest loser, closing down 2.8% to finish at $14.72. With 3.7 million shares changing hands, the stock traded at 0.7 times its three-month average volume. United Therapeutics Corporation (NASDAQ:UTHR), another big loser, closed at $49.82 (-2.3%) on volume of 906,298.
