MCLEAN, Va. -- ZapThink, an info-tech advisory firm that provides guidance and training on Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Enterprise Architecture, announced yesterday that it was acquired by Dovèl Technologies.

ZapThink founder Ronald Schmelzer told citybizlist that the deal with Dovèl developed quickly, closing on July 25 after originating just three months ago. While he was unable to disclose terms of the deal, he said that the decision to sell to Dovèl was easy. ZapThink wanted to extend its market, and the prevalence of cloud-computing activity in the government created an environment conducive to its services.

As part of the acquisition, ZapThink is now a subsidiary of the McLean, Va. provider of software and application development for federal clients in defense, public heath, and transportation.

Jason Bloomberg
will be staying on as president of ZapThink while Schmelzer will serve as a consultant for the next several months before moving on to concentrate his efforts on Bizelo, a Baltimore company that creates industry-specific apps to help owners manage small businesses.

Schmelzer is convinced that small businesses are going to dominate the landscape in the years to come, with a combination of former unemployed workers linking up with small businesses, a general backlash against big corporations, and the government's emphasis on kick-starting the economy through startups and innovation.

ZapThink's sale is the second acquisition that Schmelzer has overseen. He previously sold ChannelWave, a Boston software company that raised more than $60 million in venture funding, to Click Commerce.
